Motivational Quotes: Ancient Philosophers- Socrates

“The Unexamined Life is Not Worth Living”

Greek philosopher, Socrates (469-399) said that at his trial for heresy. He was on trial for encouraging his students to challenge the accepted beliefs of the time and think for themselves. In other words, you need to know yourself and to take control of your life. You decide who you want to be and begin to become the person you want to be.
Socrates despite his foundational place in the history of ideas, actually wrote nothing. Most of our knowledge of him comes from the works of Plato (427-347), and since Plato had other concerns in mind than simple historical accuracy it is usually impossible to determine how much of his thinking actually derives from Socrates.
